Mountain Moving

“It’s gone! The dirt hill disappeared!” I said. Each day as we drove by my grandsons and I watched dump trucks load dirt from a huge hill. Though we watched slow progress for months now it had vanished quickly. A week ago when we last drove by the hill still loomed high.

“Just like it says in the Bible,” I continued. “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed you will say to this mountain, Be moved, and it will move.” Mostly to myself I added, “I don’t think I ever moved a mountain.” I thought of things like a broken bone instantly healed.

“Grandma,” said my 8- year-old grandson. “I think it means spiritual mountains. You know, like if something is really hard and God helps you persevere and finish it even when you don’t want to. I think God meant spiritual mountains.”

“Yeah, Grandma, ” said the 7-year-old. “It means spiritual mountains.”

“Everyone who thinks it means spiritual mountains raise your hand,” said the older. We all raised our hands.

“Grandma,” said the younger. “Have you ever moved a spiritual mountain?”

“Yes, kiddo,” I mused. Their words brought thoughts of relationship breaks where I persevered in prayer and saw God heal. “I think I have.”

“See Grandma, you have moved a mountain.”
